I have one UM song, "Higgens" on a Pitchfolk compilation and while I wouldn't call if "awful", "good" would not be a word I would use either.

Does anybody have any UM they like? I saw the 8 or so years ago and was simply bored. But if somebody who likes RRE has recommendations I'll try it - else I'm leaving after the RRE set.

sorta reminds me of the situation on 7/22/07 at "The Greek"...

HBRSB opened, then RRE and SCI was the (alleged) headliner

the lineup shoulda been SCI, HBRSB and RRE

but don't take my word for it, listen for yourself

SCI...http://archive.org/details/sci2007-07-22.flac
HBRSB(w/ Billy Nershi)...http://archive.org/details/hbr2007-07-22.FLAC
RRE...http://archive.org/details/rre2007-07-22.flac

I prefer both the "openers" to the "headliner"

Umphrey's McGee has truly gone off the deep end of sellouts. They've become much more interested in the dance party than creating original music. Very sad indeed, because it seems many of you may not have heard their good stuff. Now I don't know how many of you appreciate progressive rock/jazz fusion stuff, but UM at their onset showed promising signs of being the next best thing to happen to the genre. From 98-early 07 they truly had something unique, original, and stimulating going on. Then they went on tour with teh Disco Biscuits, saw the effect their lame dance grooves had on crowds, and wanted it for themselves. If this was UM pre-2007, I would've done everything I could to be at Red Rocks to watch RRE play with UM. Now, some of you are right. The 16 year olds will sadly have no idea how to respond to RRE. It is important to know however that RRE is actually rather popular amongst UM's older fans, so there will be appreciative people there nonetheless. But it is truly unfortunate what happened to what could have been.

For those of you who do like prog/fusion, there tune In Violation of Yes (which they don't even play anymore) is among the finest stuff you'll hear from any band in the genre. If any of you are interested, I'd be more than glad to up a version.
